Many people have different ideas on how to use SEO on their websites. Using different types of SEO methods will always help your rankings with search engines, but there are some pitfalls that you need to be aware of.
One of the options that you have is called “Organic SEO”. Definitions of this term can vary, but it simply means that you do not use any “fee based” services (keyword advertising programs or pay-per-clicks). Many SEO experts say that organic SEO is all about optimizing the contents on your site to attract spiders and crawlers that index sites. Others say that it’s the number of links that are created on your website. It is actually a combination of each scenario and much more (design, site title, URL, etc). You may be thinking “this is a really easy way to achieve rankings with search engines without too much effort on my part”….think again!
Your webpage’s are one of the most important pieces of the puzzle. If the content is relevant, there is a possibility that other web pages will link themselves to your page or pages. Be very careful. Many website owners purchase links without doing any research. This can lead to problems. If the links are NOT relevant to your website, you could be blacklisted (Black Hat SEO tactics) by the major search engines.
Don’t fall prey to these types of short cuts. Try to concentrate on developing good links from reputable websites and communities (blogs, news articles, etc). Finding the right links for your website is not easy. Try to have links that include the following:
- Keep your links relevant - You can link to pages in the same industry or outside your industry, but make sure that these links make sense to your vistors.Crawlers will also examine these links closely to make sure that the content is relevant in the URL of the link and within the text.
- Link to high ranking sites - you will gain popularity with the search engines if you link to reputable, high ranking sites. If you link to a spam site or link farm, the search engines could frown upon you and youcould be subjected to a penalty!
- Maintain your links - Make sure that your links are not broken. If a search engine crawler comes across a link that is broken for a long time, the search engine may reduce your ranking. Website change all the time. Some may have gone out of business or made changes that may no longer be relevant to your site. So check your links periodically.
- Write articles - if you have accurate, relevant, well written articles on your website, you will find that vistors and companies will link back you your site as long as they use your article on their site. This is a good way to way to increase inbound links from companies using your article (for free) as long as they give you credit and link back to your website.
Organic SEO does work, but it would be wise for you to incorporate as many SEO tactics to help push your rankings closer to the top!
